Curious Monica Podcast Highlights, Wrapping Up Season 2 – Part 2

Another season of curiosity has come your way! The Curious Monica podcast features candid conversations with innovators in thriving organizations across various industries.  In each episode, host & founder of InnovatorsBox, Monica Kang interviews her friends in diverse fields about what they do and why they love what they do. If you’re curious too, you’ll gain incredible insight into the workplace patterns that can change the way you think about work, no matter what industry you’re in or who you are.

We have taken the time to intentionally share the summaries of our podcasts because we know the life of an innovator is busy. These summaries are great post-listen reflections to help the information sink in. They are also a way to get a sneak peak of what you missed if you got caught up mid-listen. Or, they can even just help you decide what episode to watch next!

Our first podcast reflection blog covers the first 5 episodes (plus a teaser) and this reflection blog covers episodes 6 to 10. Each summary includes a little more about what each episode is about and a guest list to dive deeper into why people love what they do.

Episode 6: Serving with a Purpose: Social Entrepreneurs

Published: Dec 23, 2021 – 26:49 Minutes

Social entrepreneurship – A person who pursues a novel business that has the potential to solve community-based problems to make this world a better place. What does that really mean? How does a business really help make society a better place and how does one determine how to do that and still grow as a business aka profit? In this episode we explore these questions and more as Monica interviews experts in the field who explain its importance, how you get into it, and why doing so is actually an investment in your business and the world – a world where the pandemic has shown how interconnected we all truly are. And if you haven’t touched social activism yet, our guests share some invaluable ways to get started. Also wondering what all those “SDGs” everyone is talking about are? Have a listen to find out.

“Compassion doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re being overly polite and kind. Sometimes compassion means you’re able to tell the hard truth.”

Key Question: If you could pick one SDG that aligns the most with your business, which would it be?

Episode 7: Transforming Health Challenges Into Opportunity – Career Pivots

Published: Dec 30, 2021 – 23:56 Minutes

The pandemic gave us all a taste of what it’s like when health challenges derail our business models and careers. Some people have already had to overcome health challenges in order to succeed. And for the guests on this podcast, they were able to transform their pain into inspiration for their lives and career changes. Being able to overcome challenges, especially health challenges, takes an incredible amount of resilience. And it takes creativity to be able to apply the lessons we’ve learned from those challenges into our careers. If you’re feeling a little down or at a low point, this episode is for you.

“There’s something about what happened to me that has me in a state where service before self is the only thing that matters … I do what I do for others because somebody did it for me.”

Key Question: What is one thing you have to be grateful for today?

Episode 8: The Power Of Curiosity in Communication – Speakers & Writers

Published: Jan 6, 2022 – 26:27 Minutes

Good writing and speeches inspire you, motivate you, and make you feel heard. What would it be like to do this full time, and how does one decide to want to become a speaker or a writer? In this episode we speak with authors, speakers, and workplace communicators Don Khouri and Saleema Vellani about their journey into this profession and how others can be successful at it too. We often think skills like writing and speaking are those that we are born with, but this episode shows how truly anyone can be successful in this industry by honing their passions and curiosity.

“Knowing why you want to write a book is important ... Even as a writer, it was difficult to empathize with a future reader. And how do I make it non-obvious? How can I pack interesting things in a newer way?”

Key Question: If you were to write a book, what story would you tell?
Guests from Episode:
  • Don Khouri, Executive Coach, Speaker, Author of “When to Say Yes”
  • Saleema Vellani, Founder & CEO, Ripple Impact, Author of “Innovation Starts with I”

Episode 9: Getting Curious About Curiosity – A Special Interactive Reflection

Published: Jan 20, 2022 – 15:22 Minutes

In this very special edition of Curious Monica, I invite you to pause and be mindful with me as I lead you through an interactive reflection on curiosity. Instead of the usual guest interviews, I’m going to share various resources on how to use this time to reflect, pause, and be curious. My hope is that you’ll walk away from this special episode with new questions, and use this time to reflect, pause and set your intentions as you are mapping out your 2022 goals and intentions. Get your notepads out, put your headphones in, and reflect!

“We can’t manifest what we can’t want. Get curious about your dreams and wishes - Not just about your professional goals but about your life goals.”

Key Question:  How are you feeling after this exercise? What’s one thing you can takeaway?

Episode 10:

Published: Jan 27, 2022 – 9:57 Minutes

In the final episode of Curious Monica Season 2, we reflect on all the conversations from this season to create a special advice column for you – the innovators. The past few months have been about transition – transitioning into new workplace norms, new careers, and new ways of innovating. But what exactly does it mean to create and live for tomorrow? This episode summarizes some of the best answers to that question, and serves as an extra dose of inspiration (and curiosity) as the year closes. Thanks for listening and see you again for Season 3!

“Sometimes we feel we have to be big and famous to make an impact. That’s not true at all. Your impact today may have started with the extra kindness you shared with a stranger during your grocery run."

Key Question: What is one of the biggest action points from Curious Monica Season 2 that you can start integrating into your life? What are you still curious to learn about?

And with that, Curious Monica Season 2 is a wrap! Season 2 was all about transition and resilience as we face the new normal, and we feel even more excited about the innovations and careers that have come out of it. We also have a Part 1 of our Curious Monica Podcast Highlights, which reviews Episode 1 – 5 (including a teaser).

We want to take this opportunity to thank our guests (and friends) again for their time and expertise. Also, thank you to the entire InnovatorsBox team for continuing to make our podcasts happen.
